Visual Accents

One of the greatest challenges of role play is making your characters sound real. If your character sounds like you, it’s easy. But what if they don’t? After all, one of the attractions of role playing is being able to be someone else and that means not sounding like yourself.

It’s not always easy to decipher the linguistic differences and accents of other places, particularly if you haven’t spent much time there recently. here are some amazing maps from imgut that can help RPers visualize what their characters might sound like based upon where they reside or grew up. Yes, some phrases stick with us throughout our lives, though you can probably argue they may not linger through the entire existence of say a vampire, faerie or other virtually immortal creature. Of course, most of those characters discovered the spoken language eons ago so any modern slang they use is probably affected to help them blend in.
