How to Write Description that Will Delight Your Readers’ Senses

A criticism often leveled at RP, particularly Twitter RP but also role play taking place elsewhere online, is that it is flat and lacking texture. Indeed, the incestuous nature of most fandoms not to mention the fact that canon RP characters try to imitate to a greater or lesser degree the style of the inspirational work, lends itself to repetition more than to transformation. Which isn’t to say that there are not some amazing flights of fancy occurring regularly in the RP universe. They all just tend to sound…similar.

So we’re passing along some excellent advice and great habits to get into for any rper looking to add something to their role play. Whether that “something” is emotion or just some color or shading doesn’t matter. Creating descriptions that delight fans and fellow role players at any level is certainly something to strive for. By doing so we, as rpers, writers and real people may even discover there is more to these worlds, real and imaginary than we realized. And won’t that be fun?

I can’t agree more with your comments here. As long as it doesn’t become “look at the big fancy words I found in my thesaurus” which can be equally disheartening. I liked the idea of considering if you wouldn’t use the word in conversation, why use it in writing?
