Excellent points. One problem not mentioned is that not everyone wants that “unifying identity” to be their “real identity”. This is especially true of gamers and role players who have multiple “characters”. Unfortunately, few online or computer/console based game systems support that kind of gameplay, forcing you to be one character at a time (for the record you can do it with traditional pen and paper/pbp and some tabletop systems). Certainly, such a unified system poses serious development challenges. Believe me, I’ve been working on my version of a system for a while and I’m not close to a prototype that last longer than a minute. Still, a girl can dream and I do.
